Why Use Incised Railway Sleepers?

The Incised range of preservative treated landscaping sleepers gives added confidence to your next landscaping project. Manufactured from quality whitewood, our landscaping sleepers are kiln dried and incised prior to preservative treatment to Use Class 4 ground contact requirements.

What’s incising?

Incising means that consistent and uniform incisions enable a minimum of 6mm preservative treatment penetration to meet Use Class 4 (EN335) and BS8417 ground contact requirements.

Incisions along the entire length of our sleepers create a neat yet distinctive pattern on all four sides. This allows the subsequent preservative treatment, applied at the sawmill under high pressure, to penetrate deeper into the structure of the timber creating a robust and uniform envelope of protection.

We believe our incised Use Class 4 treatment, as recommended for ground contact applications, offers enhanced penetration as well as a broader spectrum of protection against decay organisms, particularly certain copper tolerant brown rots.
